I hope you are adjusting well to the stay at home order. Like me, I am sure you are finding ways to adjust to ‘social distancing’ in your personal life and the new parameters in your business life as well. NAHU has been supporting us by sending out relevant notices and information as it becomes available. The latest was the relief requests that the Department of Labor released. Check your email you should have received that on April 29th.
Thank you for your votes on the executive new board members that will take office on July 1, 2020. We are busy finishing up goals set for this year and succession planning for the new board. It really has been an honor to serve and I encourage you to think about getting involved. We have committees forming now and have something to fit all interests from legislative, awards, membership, publics service, communications, media, professional development, golf tournament, etc.
Virtual meetings - We have been working to bring you CE webinars and have two scheduled for the month of May. A three CE credit hour ethics course brought to us by One America and Dr. Paul Flatley to discuss Tele-Doc programs. Visit our website for more details. Steve Glucksman is originally from Los Angeles. He was transferred to AZ in 1984. Steve is married and has a 23-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old son. Steve loves hiking and college football. He has been on the Fiesta bowl committee since 1990.
Steve began his career in LA with Pacific Mutual in 1981 as a Group rep and was then transferred to Phoenix. He became an agent in 1988. Soon after graduating from the University of Texas, Steve moved back to Los Angeles where he met a headhunter who introduced him to his first job at Pacific Mutual. Today, Steve is primarily a Group producer, but has a nice mix of Life, Individual Health and LTD and Medicare business.
What is one way you think being an agent/broker provides a positive benefit to clients/individuals?
I am in the business of promises. I think keeping them and delivering what I promised is the most positive
Steve originally became a NAHU/GPAHU member because his company wanted their reps to be involved. He was not active until he moved to Phoenix in 1984. Mike Scanzello encouraged me to get involved. Steve ended up serving as both GPAHU and AAHU presidents in the 1990’s.
What 2 benefits do you feel are most valuable as part of your membership?
The biggest benefit of being a member of NAHU/GPAHU is the ability to be represented in Washington, DC and the friendships that have been made over the years.
What would you tell a potential new member to sell them on becoming a NAHU/GPAHU member?
I would tell a potential member that you picked a great industry. Get involved and help mold the future by being involved. You will benefit by what you learn and the contacts you make and feeling a sense of pride of being a member of such a great organization like NAHU.
Jeff Wilkinson is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah. He has been in Arizona for 7 years. “I love it here and do not plan on ever leaving”. Jeff has been married to his high school sweetheart for 21 years. They have three kids, a 20-year-old daughter who is a Junior at ASU, a 17-year-old son who is a Junior in High School, and an 11-year-old son who is in 5th grade. Jeff has two sisters and four stepsisters. Lots of girls in his house in the summer and on holidays. 😊 Jeff enjoys basketball and watching anything his kids are involved in.
Jeff has worked in this industry for 10 years all on the carrier side. There was an opportunity that opened up at TDA and he knew people that absolutely loved it, so he jumped. TDA provides ancillary benefits including, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and Critical Illness.
What is one way you think being an agent/broker provides a positive benefit to clients/individuals? Knowledge, helping individuals and businesses navigate the insurance industry, being a trusted advisor.
What motivated you to become a NAHU/GPAHU member? Relationships and knowledge. NAHU and GPAHU has given me an opportunity to learn from the best and develop relationships that I cherish. Jeff feels the most valuable part of your membership are resources and knowledge.
What would you tell a potential new member to sell them on becoming a NAHU/GPAHU member? This will change you career, you absolutely need to be involved with your professional organizations. Other professions require it because of all the resources it brings. You will look back at the time you got involved and realize the drastic changes it has made on you professionally and it gives you access to so many resources. The relationships you develop with industry colleagues will be some of the best professional relationships you will have in your career. There has been no downside to not only being a member of NAHU/GPAHU and if you get involved with the associations it will be career and life changing.
Jeff has served on the GPAHU Board since 2013 (7 years). He was recruited by Michael Ward. Jeff wanted to serve in whatever capacity was needed on the board. Jeff is the current GPAHU Treasurer. It was an easy transition into this role as he previously served as President and was already working closely with the previous Treasurer.
What are the advantages of your involvement with the board? Relationships and being around such knowledgeable people have changed me for the better.
Please share your “Why?” Why because clients and individuals need experts as we navigate the ever-changing world of benefits. The resources that NAHU has from a lobbying standpoint and just shear knowledge standpoint is priceless. Selfishly it will change your career as you start to develop relationships with your industry colleagues and peers. I 100% believe you should be a part of your professional organization so that you have access to resources and people that can help you grow personally and professionally.
GPAHU downloads member data from the national site, so update it there and we’ll capture changes that way. To update your information, go to www.nahu.org, click on “Membership”, then “My Account”. You can update your address, email, edit your practice areas, view your member details, billing, add a photo, keep track of new members you brought in, certifications, etc. It’s important to keep this data updated because this is how you will be shown in the Find an Agent tool (https://forms.nahu.org/consumer/findagent2.cfm).

The NAHU Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps the public stay informed about the public and private health insurance options available to them. The foundation creates educational materials for the American public about private health insurance options, whether consumers are buying health insurance coverage on their own, purchasing coverage through the exchange or signing up for a plan through their employer. To qualify for the Triple Crown, within the calendar year (01/01-12/31), a member must:
HUPAC: Participate in $12 x 12 draft program or contribute $150 total for the year
Membership: Recruit two or more new members
