What to Expect in an Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) Health Investigation

Please join us for a presentation by Michael Baron traveling from the Los Angeles DOL and Erin from the State of AZ DOI.

Michael Baron is a Senior Advisor for Health Investigations (SAHI) at the Los Angeles Regional Office of the U.S. Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration.   Mr. Baron joined the agency in 2009, as an Investigator in the Chicago Regional Office.  He joined the Los Angeles Regional Office in 2013 as a Senior Investigator, handling large MEWA and other health investigations, and serving as a mentor and Acting Supervisory Investigator. As SAHI, Mr. Baron has been involved in all aspects of the Los Angeles Regional Office’s health investigations, liaised with state Departments of Insurance and other regulatory agencies, and conducted health investigation outreach and investigator training. Michael has a BA from the University of Notre Dame, a JD from Boston College Law School, and is a member of the Illinois bar.

Erin H. Klug is the Assistant Director of the Market Oversight Division at the Arizona Department of Insurance.  The Market Oversight Division is responsible for performing form/rate review for all Life & Health and Property & Casualty lines of business, as well as market analysis and market conduct examination activities.  Erin began her career at the ADOI in 1989 as an investigator, but has enjoyed serving in a variety roles over the last 30 years, including Legislative Liaison, Market Conduct Chief, and Public Affairs Officer.  Erin is a native of Arizona and a graduate of the University of Arizona.
